Why NuMedica PrenuPhase?
Our food choices are causing Chronic Disease.
In short because of our S.A.D (Sad American Diet). Over the last 100 years we have changed our diet from natural, whole healthy foods to fast, convenient, processed foods. As of 2012, more than 50% of the US population had one or more chronic health conditions (heart disease, stroke, cancer, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and arthritis). One in four adults had two or more chronic health conditions.1 Almost 50% of US adults have diabetes or pre-diabetes which is a condition where they have an elevated blood sugar level.2 This generally reflects a lack of insulin production to lower blood sugar (Type 1 diabetes) or insulin resistance (Type 2 diabetes) which is typically the result of obesity from poor diet and lack of exercise and often leads to metabolic syndrome.
Our poor food choices have left our bodies starved for real nutrients and riddled with cellular inflammation that is driving all of the chronic disease. We can all benefit from eating more natural, whole foods, managing our stress, and getting better sleep. For those times when we give in to our cravings and eat food we shouldn't... introducing NuMedica PrenuPhase to the rescue.
How Does NuMedica PrenuPhase Work?
NuMedica PrenuPhase helps regulate the processes that control our blood sugar level or glucose level management. PrenuPhase is intended to lessen the negative impact of high-carbohydrate foods as they go through the digestive process. PreunuPhase is NOT a treatment or cure for chronic disease that is primarily the result of poor nutrition over time. PrenuPhase does NOT stop the cravings for sugary or carbohydrate-rich foods (see NuMedica Appe-Curb).
Background on Carbohydrate Metabolism
The energy our body needs to function comes from food containing carbohydrates. The most important carbohydrate is glucose- a simple sugar (monosaccharide) metabolized by nearly all known organisms. During digestion, carbs are turned into glucose (sugar) that is then used for energy or fuel for our cells- a process called ATP production.
Background on Insulin and Type 2 Diabetes
Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that helps the body store and use glucose. When our cells require more energy, insulin helps deliver that glucose from the bloodstream into muscle, fat, liver, and most other cells so that our body can use it for fuel. However, when cells have enough glucose already, insulin helps the body to store extra fuel as fat or as temporary energy stores in the muscle (glycogen). Fat can later be converted back into glucose for energy if there is a shortage of glucose available to the cells from our diet.
Insulin resistance is a condition in which the body produces insulin but does not use it effectively. When people have insulin resistance, glucose builds up in the blood instead of being absorbed by the cells, leading to type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes.
Foods and the Glycemic Index
Getting back to the Sad American Diet... Blood glucose levels are closely related to the amount and type of carbohydrates consumed in our diet. Glycemia is the related noun meaning glucose or sugar in the blood. High-glycemic foods cause a larger rise in blood glucose, which can last for a longer time as well. Low-glycemic foods tend to cause small blood sugar rises that don't last as long.
Sugary foods are obviously high-glycemic foods. High-starch foods (like potatoes, rice and cereals) are made up of long strings of glucose and can be more glycemic than some sugary foods. Don't be fooled by some of the "healthy snacks or drinks" being promoted- look at the sugar content on the label. In general, the more processed a food, the more glycemic. These simple sugars are more easily absorbed and can drive the blood sugar level up more quickly.
Key Ingredients of NuMedica PrenuPhase that Support Healthy Glucose Metabolism
Prenulin®
Prenulin®, a patented formulation of L-Arabinose and Chromax®, has been studied in humans with regard to sugar absorption. It reduces the impact of glucose and insulin by a factor of approximately 30% on an intake of 70g of sugar. It does this using the L-Arabinose in Prenulin® which reduces the activity of sucrase, the digestive enzyme responsible for sucrose digestion, which delays the digestion, absorption and metabolism of sugar.4
Prenulin® contains Chromium which lessens insulin release which helps regulate post-meal blood sugar aiding in healthy glucose metabolism.4
Phase 2 Carb Controller®
Phase 2 Carb Controller®, also patented, is a proprietary white kidney bean extract that helps
delay the digestion and absorption of starch4 which is found in large amounts in most comfort foods. (Remember that absorbed starch turns into sugar.) It also makes more of that starch
starch resistant, which is a type of dietary fiber naturally found in many carbohydrate-rich foods.
Resistant starch does not get digested and passes through the digestive system helping to
feed the gut microbiome which is beneficial.
InnoSlim®
InnoSlim®, also patented, helps decrease circulating glucose in the bloodstream and may reduce glucose absorption in the intestine resulting in favorable metabolic conditions4. It helps correct and optimize the use of glucose and fat.4
