Introduction

Stress is the confusion created when one's mind overrides the body's basic desire to choke the living daylights out of some jerk who desperately deserves it.Author Unknown

Thoughts On Stress and Worry

Our final two quotes are probably my favorites, because it seems that just like a cold, stress is contagious! Often others appear to be the source of our stressed out lives, but is it really them? We have learned that stress is 100 percent yours, and is in your mind.

What do we do? Do we lie down and choose to be victims, or do we make a stand? We and thousands of our clients have chosen to stand up against the atrocities of stress.

We'd like to leave you with a few of our favorite ways to beat stress.

Meditation and Prayer

This isn't meant to be a New Age practice, but rather a discipline of the mind. Most people are unaware that they already meditate through worry about stress. I am here to get you to worry about the right things in life. We all meditate on something whether we know it or not! How often have you meditated on how much of a jerk your boss is, or how unfair it is that you got stuck taking the kids to the doctor, again?

Instead, choose to meditate on the positive, and if you need, talk to God about the negative in your life. Not sure what that means? Here's the best definition I've ever come across on meditation, by St. Paul the Apostle:

...you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious-the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.Philippians, The Message

Affirmation Statements

Don't just think positive, speak positive! It's important that the words you say match the positive things you're thinking. Speak the positive truth about your life each day, at least once a day.

Choose Forgiveness

An important part of stress relief is also admitting when you have made a mistake and seeking forgiveness and reconciliation. Nothing is more stressful than unresolved hurts. Don't forget to forgive yourself, too.

Choose Grattitude

There was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head. "Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today." So she did and she had a wonderful day. The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. "H-M-M," she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today." So she did and she had a grand day.

This parable hit the nail on the head - you can always find something to be glad about if you try hard enough!1
