Introduction

Summary introductory paragraph here.

Strength In Super Habits

Adam Sandler produced a movie several years ago called CLICK. It was about a man who got a TV remote that controlled the time of his life. He had the ability to watch his past, and also the ability to control parts of his future. He even got to fast-forward through the "boring" parts of his day. One lesson he learned throughout the movie was how much of his day was spent in habits. What he thought were mundane tasks, were actually the stuff of life! The little things added up to the life he loved in ways he couldn't have comprehended. The same could be said for any of us!

There is a restaurant that I have always loved, a quaint BBQ joint. Remember from our first session that seven years ago we ate the typical processed American diet, soda, fried foods, and the like. Even after we went through our major dietary changes over the years, we would still go there once a year on vacation as a 'treat'. You could safely say that this annual trip was a habit!

As we began eating at the restaurant again last year, I noticed the main course of BBQ Chicken strips tasted horrible, even the kids who used to love the place complained about the food. I could have passed on the whole experience. Why? Not because the restaurant had changed, but because over time my eating habits had changed. The fried food, combined with the high fructose corn syrup in the sauce made me feel sick. Now, as crazy as it sounds, I'd much rather have a really good salad than that old heavy meal. I feel energized when I leave the table, not exhausted and bloated. This moment on our vacation made me realize just how far we had come as a family. Little steps have lead to big changes, and all are a result of changing habits!

Hidden Power of Habits

Good or Bad? Habits are neither good nor bad; but the result of the habit (the behavior) is what serves us or hurts us. What kind of power can an unconscious, automatic, repetitive behavior play in your present and future life? Super-power! Habits drive most of the behaviors that literally create our future, little by little, day by day, decision by decision.

Servant? What would you call a person who freely worked for you, all day every day, to complete the tasks necessary for the fulfillment of your goals? You would call that person a servant, and this friend would change your life! Habits are servants to every one of us.

At any point you can choose to program a new behavior into your unconscious mind and it will become an automatic, nearly effortless, behavior that works you toward a goal. Remember your first few times behind the wheel of a car? Your brain felt like it would explode with all of the different things you needed to remember: your hands go here, this is the gas, this is the break, use the turn signal, watch your mirrors, etc... Now, I'll bet driving a car is completely second nature to you. Changing food habits, stress habits, or even self-care habits can seem overwhelming, but just like your current eating habits happen with little effort, over time new, better patterns can develop and become easy for you.

Forming a new habit is exactly like an athlete who programs the muscle memory (unconscious) through repetitious (conscious) practice. You will then create a new habit that serves you better than the old habit! Remember, you get to decide the habits you form over your lifetime, so choose well.
