A recurring regulatory configuration governing the threshold at which internal or external events are assigned interpretive significance within cognitive appraisal processes.

Describes how readily the mind treats events, sensations, or thoughts as meaningful or important.

Scope

Applies to the tendency to assign interpretive weight to events, including whether ambiguous inputs quickly acquire meaning. Distinct from Attention & Information Processing, which concerns what is noticed, and from Threat & Demand Appraisal, which evaluates whether something constitutes challenge or threat.
