 Recognize the Relevance of Self-Care

Mental Health usually refers to an individual's psychological and emotional well-being. Unfortunately, it is uncommon for some people to be educated and understand the importance of having stable mental health. Instead, we are encouraged not to express our emotions because it might motivate our peers to view us "too sensitive".

It is rare for teens and young adults to recognize the relevance of self-care. Self-care varies by individual, but is not utilized by everyone. There is not a singular method or strategy to taking responsibility of an individuals mental health, but the goal is that the individual is satisfied with themselves. The reality is that the world makes it difficult for some people to have sincere happiness. Whereas, each individual is arranged into a category based on their presentation and assessed on these characteristics steadily. These characteristics have the power to determine how the individual is perceived by the world. The most efficient method to overcoming the phenomenon of the world, the individual must persevere in order to grow. The individual should understand the significance of knowing what brings them genuine happiness.

An individual should consider accepting unhappiness and began by identifying the cause immediately. Life is precious, but can be difficult at times when things are not executed as planned. My happiness and plans were altered about five years ago, when I lost a significant figure in my life, my step-father. In December of 2014, I was exposed to death and was forced to adapt and accept the realities of life. Unfortunately, when I was first exposed, the situation overwhelmed me. I allowed my hurt to bedisplayed, which affected those that I interacted with consistently. I began to neglect and disrespect those that I have built genuine relationships with including my immediate family. Eventually, I recognized how my actions affected those I loved the most, which encouraged me to generate an alternative approach. I began to invest in myself, and gradually identified different entities that brought me euphoria.

Sports has always played a significant role during my lifetime. In high school, after the death, basketball and baseball became exercises that I invested a majority of my time in. I found myself devoting more time to these sports outside of the typical practices and games. The batting cages served as an establishment that allowed me to get away and relieve any tension I embodied. Similarly, the basketball court served as an outlet that allowed me to drift away temporarily. Whether I was on the court in between four lines or inside the diamond, these activities gave me genuine happiness. Likewise, the interaction with people shifted. I began to understand how important family was, and eventually established a new respect for those closest to me. I cherished every moment I spent with them, which encouraged me to obtain a greater appreciation for the relationships that I was blessed with including friends.

The concept of having authentic relationships outside of my family became critical. Once my perception was shifted, I distanced myself from unhealthy friendships and invested more time in healthy relationships, which gave me eternal bliss. Moreover, there are enterprises that I identify as investments. Morehouse has served as an environment that continuously impacts my life positively. This school continues to create and enhance relationships that continue to develop. The concept and reality of the school is inspiring, and has forced me to acknowledge that it brings transparent elation. Additionally, music has served as the largest commodity. Although I am not a musician, music bids me the convenience of express. I am granted the freedom to choose which genre of music, which artist and which song I desire to hear daily. Music has various forms, but has the possibility of becoming angelic and meaningful through lyrics. Ultimately, music generates elation because I have control of what makes me happy regularly. Each of these things are used as coping strategies that I utilize and classify as tools of self-care. These mechanism are applied constantly because of their impact on my happiness.

Currently, each of these strategies have become relevant products and accessories that have contributed to my progression. During my lifetime there has been a variety of events that have occurred, and has contributed to my decision to study psychology. During junior year of high school, a significant figure in my life passed and it altered how I functioned daily. The following year, psychology was exposed to me and it changed my perspective on how to handle adversity. I learned the importance of managing each situation, so that I will not allow them to defeat me. During this time, I began fostering relationships that I still value today. In addition, I prepared to begin a new chapter in life.

College is a season in life where most students start to discover their true identity, and become more comfortable with their character. While beginning to understand their identity, it is common for students to discover what brings them sincere happiness. Although, I have identified schemes that makes me happy, I still struggle with taking care of myself. Create a community of happiness by investing and employing self-care. Thus, the importance of having a foundation of individuals that desires to see you happy. The foundation is essential, and is necessary to navigate through the turmoil that is encountered faithfully. Furthermore, everyday is an exploration, and each day I have the opportunity to locate which activities contribute to the evolution of my happiness. I am constantly searching for additional interactive resources that make me happy.

Ultimately, it is important to make time for self care because life can become tedious instantly. It is better to be proactive instead of reactive in these situations, which means taking control of your health. Despite the indifferences in America, everyone should strive to gain more control of their mental health through self-care. My knowledge and understanding about psychology and self-care has encouraged me to nurture my mental health. Create a community of happiness by investing and employing self-care.
